Three-year apprenticeship program at a glance

Year 1

Apprentices balance taking high school classes with working.

Year 2

Apprentices may be finishing high school or attending college while working.

Year 3

Most apprentices are enrolled in college classes while working.

Typical weekly apprentice schedule:

Participants in their first year attend classes in the morning and work afternoons (Monday-Thursday).

Participants in their second and third years typically work full days (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) or afternoons (Monday-Thursday), with additional shift considerations related to college schedules.

Program timeline and expectations

Year 1

Work 16 hours per week

Develop professional skills.

Train in and develop career-ready industry and customer service competencies.

Shadow Pinnacol employees.

Undergo on-the-job training in a variety of work placements.

Year 2

Work 16 - 24 hour weeks

Graduate high school.

Enroll in college courses.

Identify a career pathway specialization based on interests and strengths.

Gain career pathway-specific training and experience.

Year 3

Work 20+ hours per week.

Complete program credentials.

Continue postsecondary courses.

Advance career path training and experience.

Prepare for post-apprenticeship employment and/or education.
